30 Lesson’s from 30 Trips around the Sun
Today (January 31st) is my 30th birthday and I thought it would be fun to share 30 things I’ve learned from 30 trips around the sun.
1. Life is too short to drink bad coffee.
2. Invest in a great mattress and great shoes (think about it: if you aren’t in one, you are in the other)
3. Taking a walk is probably in the top 5 best things you can do for yourself each day
4. Chicken schmaltz is the ultimate cooking fat.
5. Make things for yourself. More often than not, it’s what the client wants.
6. Dark Chocolate is the superior chocolate 🍫
7. Give yourself a gift each day. It can be as simple as not checking your email at night, or buying a coffee out.
8. Life is a party (& remember to invite yourself!)
9. People like what is different, but they LOVE what’s nostalgic! If you can give people both, your product/brand will be unstoppable.
10. Everyone is busy, so take that conversation off the table.
11. Actually sweat the small stuff — focus on the details that most people aren’t.
12. When you are early in your career, quantity will lead you to quality. MAKE, MAKE, MAKE! The best way to learn is by doing.
13. Live to minimize your regrets, not maximize profits.
14. Street food is always the best food.
15. Talk to strangers. It makes life far more interesting. You never know who you will meet or learn from.
16. The bathroom is not a place to check emails or work. Take a moment and handle your business, then get back to work.
17. Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Do your own thing.
18. Tension and release = art
19 Pickled onions make nearly every savory food taste better
20. Almost all activities are better when you add friends.
21. Pursue less but better in every area of your life.
22. Avoid trends because they age your work. The goal is to be timeless.
23. Always trust your gut. It knows better than our monkey brains 🧠
24. You have to love the “process.” Getting over the mundane moments is what will make you great.
25. You don’t need a large budget to make amazing work. Constraints breed conditions for creativity.
26. Train your body as hard as your mind and craft, because then nothing can break you.
27. Ask for help. You honestly don’t have to do it all on your own.
28. Don’t assume you’re right. There are two sides to every story and many shades of gray.
29. Don’t rush to grow up. A child-like mind is a great gift and something we should all cultivate.
30. If it’s bland, add some hot sauce. Everything needs a bit of spice
Have a great day. Let’s make the world a better and more creative place today!
